20 Perfectly Southern Baby Girl Names

I have always loved names, but I have a soft spot in my heart for southern names. Maybe it is because I've watched way too many Matthew McConaughey movies or maybe because I frequently binge watch episodes of Fixer Upper.  I love Chip and Joanna Gaines, seriously they are such a fun couple and sometimes at one in the morning, they make me want to pick up my life, move to Texas, renovate a home and then buy a couple chickens, cows and horses.

So, I couldn't miss this opportunity to blog about 20 perfectly southern baby girl names. Let me know if you've used or are planning to use any of these adorable names.

100 Baby Names for 2015

Names, names, names! Even though I'm not pregnant, I do enjoy looking at names for future kids. With my first child my husband and I made a list of names right after we found out we were pregnant. Assuming choosing a name would be a breeze, I didn't think to heavily on naming her until the third trimester. I thought, "well we will choose a name from the list and that will be that" Everyday I wrestled with naming, "should we name her Giselle, or Alice or maybe Aria?" Gollie bum finding a name that we both liked seemed ridiculously challenging. 

Who knew naming a baby could pose such a challenge? Luckily, four days after my daughter was born my husband and I finally agreed and decided on a what we felt was the perfect name for her. 

My advice is start thinking about a name early in your pregnancy.

Hipster Baby Naming Tips and Fun Names

Waiting for your baby to come brings a rush of many emotions. Happiness, fear, excitement and love were some of the feelings I experienced towards the end of my pregnancy. Not having a name picked out prior to the delivery made life seem a bit stressful. 

After experiencing the pain and stress of childbirth, the last thing on my mind was "what should I name my baby?" During the labor pain I wasn't thinking about her future name. I was busy trying hard not to scream while my body was being ripped inside out. Errrgh! 

As you can probably tell the tip of the week is to have five names picked out before you go to the hospital. This will definitely ease the stress for your baby's grand entrance :)

This week for featured names the focus is hipster! Mostly for kicks and giggles, but seriously some of these names are pretty cute.  Good luck with baby naming!

Unique Baby Names and Tips

Welcome to week two of Baby Names Thursday! Why - oh why is naming a baby so hard? Hopefully after this article you will have new methods for naming your little one. Read below for five tips to help name your baby and this week's featured "Unique Baby Boy Names."

Baby Naming Tips

1. Names Party Galore 

During one of my showers everyone was asked to write down a couple names. Later I read the names out loud, while we laughed, oohed and awed.  If you live away from your family or friends there are other options than an in person party. Throw a naming party online through Facebook, Twitter, Google Hangouts, Skype and the list goes on... Invite friends to suggest names and a piece of advice for baby naming.

2. Cast your Vote

If you are hesitating to reveal your baby's name with family and friends then try online voting. Submit a list of names to www.thebump.com, and random visitors will vote which names they like most and least. Fair warning sometimes people aren't always nice when commenting if they like your names. 

3. Ancestor Search

Family history work provides a sense of identity. Knowing where you came from, whether good or bad helps mold the future. I suggest starting with www.ancestory.com. Finding stories about those you gave you life will most definitely bring baby name ideas. Your child will have a lovely name with a tender meaning. One of my sisters has a family name with a beautiful story of faith and trials. Maybe I'll share another Thursday.

4. Bad Connotations

Conduct research on your top names. For example: Judas ... after biblical study you will learn that name is associated with Judas who betrayed Jesus. Eek. Talk with your partner and discuss the connotations. Is the connotation really that bad? 

5. Sibling Names

Will the names fit with the older sibling(s)?  For example: Victoria, Henry, William and Ryder. Ryder doesn't match the "traditional" bunch, but does that matter? Are you going with all unique names or a combination of traditional and trendy? Many parents also will suggest not to name your children similar names. For example: Allie and Allison. What if Allison wanted to also go by Allie. Do you see where this might become challenging?
